KAITERITERI DOMAIN

PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION’S SUPPORT Improvements proposed by the Kaiteriteri Domain Board were reported on at the annual sitting of the Automobile Association (Nelson) last night. The board in a letter- said it intended erecting shelter covers over fire places and increasing the reservoir, and it was making inquiries regarding the acquisition of a large army mess hut as a recreation hut for campers. The chairman. Mr C. M. Rout, said he was satisfied that the board was keen to put the camping area into good shape. The board anticipated an expenditure of £SOO on the mess hut. Proposing that £25 be donated Mr W. R.. Martyn said he was satisfied that Kaiteriteri would be one o/ the district’s main resorts when more petrol was available. The proposal was seconded by Mr E. Fleming and supported by Mr E. A. Bone. The latter mentioned that the Tahuna Sands Association was faced with a big expenditure on a septic tank at the motor camp and would probably be applying for more help. The motion was carried and it was decided to tell the Domain Board that the association would give favourable consideration to granting further assistance whfen the board purchased the mess hut. , The following reference was made in the annual report to domains and camping gpounds :—* Our own grounds at Ruby Bay and Aniseed Valley and the general grounds at Kaiteriteri. Pohara. Pelorus. Tahuna, etc., have been remarkably well patronised in all circumstances. We are directly represented on the boards or committees of several of these grounds, on whicn considerable improvements have been effected during the year, particularly at Kaiteriteri Much .work remains to be done when labour and finance are available, including our own two grounds. The Tahuna Sands Association conte nplates extensive improvements at the beach, and has approached the City Council with a comprehensive scheme The association of course is vitally interested in the development of tiie motor camp.”
