A message from Sydney reported that Sydney ambulance stations were using a “wonder gas” called carbogen for respiratory cases. The gas was first used 25 veara ago. it was stated, hut only now did experts consider they had perfected a method of administering it to patients. Commenting on the message yesterday, the superintendent of the Wellington Free Ambulance. Mr. R. R. Olen, whp, before his appointment to Wellington 16 months ago was superintendent of the Canterbury-Bankstown District Ambulance. Sydney, said that the gas. a mixture of oxygen and carbon dioxide, had been used with success for years throughout the world in many ambulance services. The method was long known and used by him in Sydney and this method was heing used by the Wellington Free Ambulance. “I would not call carbogen a wonder gas altogether.” added Mr. Olen. “It will not perform miracles, but if administered promptly, in conjunction wilh artificial resuscitation, in cases of asphyxia, is of definite value, provided the patient's heart has not ceased to heat.” WEATHER FORECAST FAIR TO FINE Wellington, This Day. Situation: An intense anti-cyclone is south of south-east and pressure is still low to the east. At the Cawthron Institute a frosi of only 3.5 degrees was recorded while at the Nelson Air Force station at Tahunanui there was a frost of 13.5 degrees. The heaviest frost of the winter—l 4 degrees—was recorded at the aerodrome yesterday. This also was 10 degrees heavier than that recorded at the Cawthron Institute. Yesterday morning a frost qf 14 degrees was recorded at one point in Blenheim and 16.1 degrees at another. Although the sun shone for 8 hours 29 minutes, the temperature yesterday did not rise above 51.6 degrees, there being a cool northerly breeze throughout the day. Afier this morning's frost the day was sunny and calm.
