NEW U.S. NAVY FIGHTER
TWIN-ENGINED GRUMANN TIGERCAT
New York, June 7. The Navy revealed that a new Navy fighter, the twin-engined Grumann Tigercat, is ready for action. The number and size of the Tigercat’s guns is not announced but the firepower is capable of smashing a big Japanese bomber in a single burst. The Tigercat climbs faster than a mile a minute and can Carry a 4000-pound bomb load or a full-sized torpedo. It has a longer range than any other fighter. The Tigercat’s speed is a secret, but the Navy said it is very fast and very powerful. Built for the Navy, Tigercats will for the first time be used by the marines in land-based operations but Navy pilots will also fly them from large carriers.
