At the annual meeting of the Waimea Electric Power Board, held to-day, Mr H E. Stephens was unanimously reelected chairman. Mr W. Max was appointed deputy-chairman. Mrs J. T. Buttress, Parkhurst Station, Hawlces Bay, formerly of Nelson, has received adice that her husband is safe in England after being a .prisoner of war in Germany for four years.

Advice that Temporary Lieut.-Col. R. G. (“Paddy”) Webb, Rotorua, and formerly of Nelson, is safe in the United Kingdom after being a prisoner of war in. Germany, has been received by his wife, Mrs I. E. Webb. Mrs A. O. Thomas, of Kotinga, Takaka, has received a cable from her nephew, Ronald Leslie Ruffell, who has been a prisoner of war in Germany for four years, stating' that he is safe and well in England. Mr and Mrs L. Mackay, Lower Moutere, have received a cable from their son, L/Cpl. Colin Mackay, who has been a prisoner of war in Stalag 18A for 31 years, stating that he is now safe and well in England. Mr. N. W. Redden has been appointed Vice-Consul of the United States of America at Wellington. Colonel H, A. Meyer has been assigned to the Legation of the United States of America. Wellington, as Military Attache in relief of Colonel J. H. Nankivell. Mr. Jack Halligaii, the Consul for Norway in New Zealand has left on a visit to Australia. During his absence, Mr. W. J. Goddard will b e Acting Consul. Mr. T. M. Charters, Christchurch, was re-elected president of the New Zealand Fire Boards’ Association at the auuual conference in Wellington yesterday. Mr. W. J. Gaudin, Wellington, was re-elected vice-president. Brigadier J. H. Bray, who was social secretary to the Salvation Army in New Zealand for some years, and was actively associated with many social activities in this country, is revisiting Wellington to attend the Salvation Army conference next week. Brigadier Bray, who retired a decade ago. has been residing in Melbourne, where he is a member of the Government Prisons Board. Mr. S. S. Dean, Wellington, received a presentation at the annual conference of the New Zealand Fire Boards’ Association in Wellington yesterday on his retirement from the executive. In presenting Mr. Dean with a cheque on behalf of the members of the association, the president. Mr. T. M. Charters. Christchurch, said that Mr. Dean had been a tower of strength and was regarded as the father of the association, having launched it on its career and piloted it along during his five years as president. Other speakers paid tribute to Mr. Dean's work and it was decided to present him. with au illuminated address. In reply. Mr. Dean said that he had had more than 30 years’ experience in fire board work and though he had retired from the executive, he would always be pleased to give any advice if the occasion arose.
