POSSIBLE RESUMPTION
WATERSIDE WORK ON SATURDAY AFTERNOONS Wellington, This Day. At their stop-work meeting yesterday jiorning members of the Wellington Waterside Workers’ Union are reported to have voted in favour of resuming work on Saturday afternoons. Officials of the union, when approached in the afternoon, would not make any statement on the matter. It is reported that similar meetings were held in Auckland, Lyttelton and Dunedin yesterday morning, but the results were not known definitely in Wellington last night. It is understood that Auckland and Dunedin were in favour of Saturday afternoon work, but that Lyttelton was against it. “I have had an interview with some of the officials of the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union, and as a resnlt I am expecting a reply that normal hours of work will be resumed on the waterfronts on Saturdays.” said the ActingMinister of Labour, Mr. O’Brien, in reply to an inquiry last night. The Minister added that he expected to receive advice from the union in a day or two.
