AT THE PICTURES
State Theatre: Screening to-night. Saturday and Monday, Brandon Thomas’ famous stage play “Charley’s Aunt,” starring Jack Benny, Kay Francis, James Ellison, Edmund Gwenn, Anne Baxter, Laird Cregar. This, of course, produces roars of laughter. Attired in the traditional dress of the title role, Benny earned for himself the title of 1941’s glamour girl in this, the funniest role of his career. The Brandon Thomas comedy has lost none of its charm in its adaptation to the screen. It still retains the humour and naturalness which has endeared it'to audiences in every part of the world. Kay Francis as Donna Lucia and James Ellison as Jack Cheshey give excellent support as does the balance of the cast. Majestic: Finally this evening, “Klondike Kate” and “In Old Oklahoma.” Tomorrow and Monday. “Gypsy Wildcat.’ The week-end attraction will be one that will bring pleasure to every patron, for it hqs beautiful colour, a dashing story, thrilling spectacle scenes and stars who have previously presented pictures that were of the kind most valued as entertainment. Maria Montez, Jon Hall and a newcomer to the screen, Peter Coe, have the leading roles, while Leo Carrillo. Nigel Bruce, Gale Sondegaard and Douglas Dumbrille are prominently cast. The story starts off brightly and there is not a dull moment throughout the screening. Richmond Theatre: To-morrow evening onlv, Alfred Hitchcock’s drama of the sea “Lifeboat.” starring Tallulah Bankhead and William Bendix. Supports include Coloured Cartoon, Overseas and Australian Newsreels.
