FINES FOR BREACHES , "That is something to be said for the barman. It is a pity that more barmen don’t inquire into the age of these young people,” observed the Magistrate. Mr T. E. Maunsell. this morning when Senior-Sergeant H. E. Knight stated that the barman at the Trafalgar Hotel had asked a young man. William Lee, his age when the latter entered the bar. Lee was charged that by falsely representing to be 21 he obtained liquor. The barman. Daniel Young fMr Cheek) was charged with supplying liquor to a person apparently under the age of 21 There was a similar charge against tho licensee. Norman L. Field (Mr Cheek) and a’l pleaded guilty. The police stated that the barman questioned the youth, who had replied that he was 21 Lee was fined £2 and 10s costs; Young. £2 and 10s costs; and the licensee was convicted and dischareed. A first offender found on the Wakefield Hotel after hours was fined £1 and 10s costs.
