SUPPLIES FOR U.S. PLANES Washington, Aug. 13. The War Department announced that American bombers need more than 700.000 tons of high explosives in the remainder of 1944. The bombers used 577.012 tons of high explosives from 7th December. 1941. to Ist July. 1944. of which 472.054 tons had been dropped since Ist January. 1944. There is also an immediate need in the Pacific for over 50.000 tons of incendiaries approximately 8.000,000 bombs. The previous use of incen diaries in the Pacific has been limited by distance from suitable targets which, however, are now accessible.
