THE LATE MISS A. TANNER

EDUCATION BOARD’S TRIBUTE The Nelson Education Board to day passed a motion of sympathy to the parents of the late Miss A. A. Tanner, a teacher at the Appleby School, who was recently killed in a car collision at Richmond. The board members stood in silence as a mark of l'espect. The chairman, the Hon. W. H. McIntyre, said that Miss Tanner entered Training College on Ist February, 1938 and completed her course at the end of 1939, During 1940 she served as probationary assistant on the staff of the Richmond School. Between February, 1941, and August, 1942, she relieved alternately at Richmond and Brightwaler. From the beginning of the third term in 1942 Miss Tanner held the position of assistant mistress at Appleby. “She was a capable and enthusiastic teacher, always bright, and had endeared herself to the pupih wherever she was teaching,” he said “Her loss is greatly deplored by the board.” Mr J. H. Harkness seconded the motion.
