JAPANESE FEAR RETRIBUTION
“Indonesians do not want false promises from Australia,” stated the Japanese news commentator over Batavia radio recently in his special propaganda talk directed towards Australia. “It is very foolish indeed of Australians to be so sympathetic towards the Dutch and to lend their broadcasting system to the Dutch and Malay commentators who promise the Indonesians that Dutch rule will soon be restored.”
After this compliment to tfig efficiency of the daily A.B.C. programmes in Dutch and Malay beamed on the occupied Netherlands Indies, the Japanese commentator revealed the reason why, in his opinion, the Indonesians did not want the Dutch to return. “They know if the Dutch return they would first of all give vent to their feelings against the Indonesians who supported the Japanese.” The boasting Japanese and the few Quislings they find ready to co-operate with them are obviously feeling that the tide has turned against them and that they will have to pay the price of their aggression and treachery.
