VICAR OF TAKAKA
INDUCTION OF REV. D. G. SPENCER
The Church of Epiphany, Takaka, was filled to capacity on the occasion of the induction of the Rev. D. G. Spencer. Archdeacon Kimberley conducted the impressive ceremony, assisted by the Rev. Mr Nicholson, of Collingwood. Mrs J. Cashman officiated at the organ. The members of the vestry formed the procession, while the presentation of the keys was carried out by Mr Ralph Lash, Minister’s Warden. Archdeacon Kimberley gave a well-chosen address. At the close of the service the ladies of the guild entertained the Rev. Mr and Mrs Spencer, visiting clergy, and the congregation at supper in fne Odd Fellows’ Hall. The Rev. Archdeacon Kimberley was chairman, and extended a warm welcome to the Rev. Mr and Mrs Spencer. . He paid a tribute to Mrs J. Cashman for her sterling service to the church as organist for 17 years.
Mrs E. C. Baigent gave a welcome to the newly appointed vicar and his wife on behalf of the Ladies’ Guild. Others to offer welcome to the newcomers were the Rev. Mr Nicholson, of Collingwood, the Rev. D. Martin. Takaka Presbyterian Church, and Mr Lash, Warden, who included in his remarks thanks to all who had helped to keep the church activities alive during the 6 months it had been without a vicar.
The Rev. Mr Spencer returned thanks on behalf of his wife and himself for the hearty welcome.
