STRIKE ENDED
KAIAPOI FREEZING WORKS Christchurch, Jan. 7. Workers at the North Canterbury Sheepfarmers’ Co-operative Company’s works at Kaiapoi decided to resume work at 1 o’clock to-day, after a secret ballot on the issue, the voting being 75 for resumption and 50 against, said the secretary of the Canterbury Freezing Workers’ Union, Mr H. G. Kilpatrick. to-day. Mr Kilpatrick went to the works this morning at the request - of the men. A meeting was held just after 8 o’clock, when he submitted a resolution in line with the union executive's policy that they resume work immediately and refer the matter in dispute to a competent tribunal for settlement. The resolution was not accepted immediately, said Mr Kil- . patrick. A lengthy. discussion took jjlace, during which contact was made with the Minister of Labour in Wellington. The Minister gave an assurance that a tribunal would be set up immediately and the men given the opportunity to choose their own representatives for it.—P.A. ONE-DAY STOPPAGE Feilding:, Jan. 7. The non-arrival of certain gear for chain workers which the men claimed . should be supplied under a clause of the award caused a stoppage of work at Borthwick’s freezing works at Aorangi yesterdaj' and no slaughtering was done. Following a conference the whole matter was amicably adjusted and work is proceeding this morning.— P.A.
