THE GREEN PEA HARVEST
263 PICKERS FROM CITY TO-DAY Six buses left Nelson this morning conveying 263 pickers to assist in the green pea harvest. These pickers were dispatched to 17 different gardens in all parts of the Waimeas. College boys and girls were once again among the volunteers, and some of the local I business firms had allowed members of their stalls to assist with the pea picking. As the provision of transport for pickers to the gardens requires considerable organisation, it is essential that members of the public who are willing to assist with the picking for a day or more should advise the W.W.S.A. organiser. Kirs Atmore, the previous evening at the latest, in order that they may be allocated to a garden and the right bus, and in order that sufficient transport may be available each day for all the voluntary labour.
