MURCHISON
MORE SOLDIERS HONOURED A very large crowd assembled in the Odd Fellows’ Hall on a recent evening when a dance was held in honour of Sergeant S. Russ, Private Alan Bruce, Private H Burt and Private Max Nalder, who were home on leave. Music for the dancing was supplied by Milligan’s Orchestra, and Messrs W. Thomson and J. Oxnam carried out the duties of M.C.’s. On behalf of the residents of the district Mr E. M. Brown, County Chairman, made appropriate remarks and Mr J. McLaren spoke on behalf of the Returned Services’ Association. Mrs Bruce and the mothers of the other men were each presented with a shoulder spray by Mrs Jagger, and Mrs L. J. Hutchings presented each soldier with the usual gift parcel. Supper was served by the girls of the Cycling Corps, after which dancing was continued. Sergeant Hulme, V.C., was also a guest at the dance, and during the evening spoke in support of the Third Liberty Loan.
