WHALER KILLED
ACCIDENT IN TORY CHANNEL A whaler was killed in an accident in Torj” Channel on Friday afternoon. He was John Donald Huntley, aged 31, married, without children, a resident of picton, and a gunner in Perano’s whalechasing fleet. Mr Huntley had discharged the gun at a whale in Tory Channel, off Wellington Head,on Friday afternoon, and due to a mishap in firing a piece of the gun struck the gunner on the head, causing serious head and eye injuries. One of the whaling vessels was raced to Picton with the injured man. and he was taken to Blenheim, bu'. died at midnight. This is stated to be the first accident the whaling fleet has suffered since it commenced about 33 s'tars ago.
