FIGHTING SERVICES CLUB
WEEK-END ACTIVITIES GENEROUS HAMPERS RECEIVED Two very generous hampers containing a wide variety of foodstuffs were sent to the Fighting Services Club at the week-end and were most gratefully received by the committee which, each week, is being called upon to cater for an increasing number of service men and women. The Wakefield W.W.S.A. sent one of the hampers which contained bottled fruit, jam, sauce, vegetables, meat, eggs, cakes, bacon, butter and apples. The other hamper was the gift of the Wakapuaka WJD.F.U., and included eggs bacon, meat, ham, cakes, biscuits, sauces, Jam, vegetables, and several sacks of potatoes. Two members of the Wakapuaka W.D.F.U. helped to prepare and serve tea at the club on Sunday, and were able to see for themselves how much the good things which their organisation had helped to provide were appreciated by the 125 hungry soldiers, airmen and W.A.A.F.'s who had tea there. Members of St Mary’s Church Guild were responsible for the luncheon arrangements on Sunday. On Saturday evening an informal dance was held in the club room, two members of the Air Force supplying the music. There was also dancing at the club last Tuestay evening. On Sunday evening the men played table tennis, cards, Chinese- checkers, and other games, or entertained themselves with a sing-song around the piano.
