ESSENTIAL FOR CHINESE VICTOR! New York, June 26. One per cent, of the United States annual warplane production—B4o— be enough for China, said General Chen Cheng to war correspondents on the Upper Yangtze front. General Chen did not think China would receive that many. “We have fought for nearly six years on morale. It is evident that we need a bigger air force and more heavy guns.” General Chen is aged 47 and is one of China’s leading generals. He was hastily summoned from Yunnan to turn back the recent Japanese threat to Chungking. He expressed the belief that the Japanese were not in a position to renew the attacks as they did not have enough troop* in China to do so —P.A.
