WARTIME PRICE INDEX

INFORMATION SOUGHT (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) Wellington, June 25. A request that there be made available to the House of Representatives full details of the price rises and fluctuations since 15th December last, on which the Government Statistician based his statement that the wartime price index had risen 1.1 per cent, since that date, was contained in a question of which notice was given by Mr C. G. E. Harker (Opposition—Waipawa). This information was not given to the public when the altered index was announced, added Mr Harker in a note, and the Economic Stabilisation Emergency Regulations, 1942, provided merely that the statistician should publish the statement in the “Gazette” and in such manner as he thought fit.
