SCHOOL CHILDREN’S STRIKE
QUESTION IN PARLIAMENT (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) Wellington, This Day. An echo of the school children’s strike at Mangapehi because of non-provision of a school at Benneydale was heard in the house of Representatives yesterday afternoon. Mr W. J. Broadfoot (Nat, Waitomo) in an urgent question asked the Minister of Education, Mr Mason, to indicate what steps had been taken to make available school facilities in Benneydale. Mr Mason, in a lengthy reply, said that the position had baen constantly under considerafon. For some time local residents had protested against the action of the Auckland Education Board in proposing the erection of a two-roomed school at Benneydale, local residents wanting a consolidated district high school at Benneydale to serve the whole district. The board objected to this. Steps had since been taken for the acquisition of a site in Benneydale to enable the board’s original recommendation to be proceeded with. In the meantime Benneydale children were being transported to Mangapehi.
