MOTUEKA WOMEN’S DIVISION
FEBRUARY MEETING At the February meeting of the Motueka Branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, held in the hall, Mrs H. Stringer presidedAfter the singing of the W.D. song and the reciting of the creed the secretary was instructed to forward a letter of sympathy to a member, Mrs D. W. Talbot, who has received advice that her son Lieut. J. R. Talbot, is reported missing. In respect to the hamper to be sent by the branch to the Fighting Services Club, Nelson, at the end af the month, it was agreed that goods for same be brought to the W.D. hall on Thursday evening, 25th February. It was also agreed that members forming the Glee Club meet on Tuesday night.
Several letters from soldiers overseas, extending thanks for parcels, were read and a notification was received from the Provincial secretary regarding the executive meeting in Nelson on Friday. The president informed members that the branch had been asked by the Patriotic Committee to undertake afternoon tea arrangements for the band of the RN.Z.A.F. when it visited Motueka Mrs A- Douglas gained most points for six gladioli and Mrs Silke for the darned stocking competition. Members were reminded that the March meeting would be held on the evening of the first Wednesday, that the competition would be (a) 6 cinnamon scones (p. 233), (2) stocking bag from any material, and that the hostesses would be Mesdames L. Evans, A. Atkins and V- Wilson. A shoulder spray, with birthday greetings, was presented to a junior member.
