TAKAKA SOLDIERS HONOURED

PRESENTATIONS MADE

A large crowd of well-wishers and dancers gathered at an entertainment held in Takaka to honour local soldiers who had been accepted for overseas, service.

After 1 the supper Interval Mr Bensemann, chairman o fthe Soldiers’ Presentation Committee, asked the following guests to take their places on the stage: Sergeant A. Page, Corporal A. C. McMillynn, Privates F. Dalton and Aitcheson. Lance/Corporal G. Lucre . was unable to be prgseht. Private Carter was a guest from the Collingwood district.

A presentation was made to each soldier by Mr Bensemann. Mr A. H. Rose, .County Chairman, conveyed to the guests the best wishes of the people of the district. Mr J. Roche foi the R.S.A., invited them to join the ranks of the association, on their return and assured them of the help in all circumstances that the R.S.A. offered to its members.

A further presentation to Sergeant A. Page, on behalf of the Odd Fellows’ was made by Mr M. Humphreys, while Mr B. Wood, president of the Takaka branch of the Farmers’ Union made a similar presentation. In the absence of the president of the Tarakohe Workers’ Union, Mr N. Bensemann, for the union, asked Privates Dalton and Aitcheson to accept mementos that carried every good wish from their fellow workers.

Musical honours were accorded the guests, who returned thanks for the gifts and good wishes bestowed on them.

The music for the evening was supplied by Mr K. Reynish’s orchestra.
