CENTENNIAL PLAY FILMED
NELSON CHILDREN ON THE SCREEN A film of the Nelson school children’s centennial play, "The School by the Pond,” was made recently by Mr C. G. Hall, of Nelson. Yesterday a number of the children who took part in the play, together with some of their teachers, were given an opportunity of attending a screening of the film and watched with interest and amusement as they saw themselves parade across the screen dressed in the costumes of 1842. The film has yet to be titled, edited and put into correct sequence before it is completed. When this is done it is to be exhibited at all the public schools in Nelson. The film gives a very clear portrayal of the play, showing Captain Wakefield addressing the early settlers on the occasion of the opening of the first school in Nelson, and the children coming to the school on that opening day and doing their lessons under the stern and dignified guidance of Mr Moore, the first schoolmaster. The picture should prove a most interesting historical record.
