LABOUR DAY HOLIDAY

ALMOST COMPLETE OBSERVANCE The Labour Day holiday week-end began with unfavourable weather today in Nelson. In accordance with the wish of the Government that workers who have had few holidays and have worked extensive overtime in the past year, should have one long week-end's relaxation, the Labour Day holiday on Monday will be almost universally observed. All Nelson factories, offices and shops, excepting dairies, will be closed on Monday. However road passenger services will be maintained. A special train will run to Glenhope and buses will run on a holiday time-table. The Post Office will be closed in all branches. There will be only one despatch of inland air mails closing at the Chief Post office at 10.45 a.m. on Monday. The telegraph branch will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday. There will be no organised sporting fixtures in Nelson this week-end, but it is usually a popular time for picnics and sailing if the weather is favourable. In a sense it is the beginning of the swimming season as both the Municipal Baths and the dressing sheds at Tahuna beach opened to-day. Both Nelson Colleges will remain closed till Wednesday as the holiday granted by the Governor-General wiT7 be observed on Tuesday next.
