R.A.F.V. ENEMY
SEPTEMBER OPERATIONS BAD WEATHER HAMPERS ACTIVITY (Rec. 11.0 a.m.) Rugby, Oct. 5. The R.A.F. operated offensively in Europe on 15 nights and days in September. Bombers made 12 night attacks on Germany and laid mines in enemy waters. Bad weather curtailed operations in the latter part of the month. Nearly 5000 tons of bombs were dropped on Germany in ten raids made in the first 10 nights of the month. The R.A.F. destroyed 20 aircraft in Europe and a further 25 enemy aircraft were destroyed over Britain. The R.A.F. lost 194 planes over Europe and one over Britain. The month’s operations in the Middle East, including Malta, cost the R.A.F. 94 planes, but 20 members of crews were saved. The Axis lost 113.
