TWO CARGO SHIPS BEACHED (Rec. 1.5 p.m.) Rugby, Oct. 5. i A United States Navy communique | states: “Army bombers operating from the Andreanof group are makin almost daily raids on Kiska. Weather conditions favoured these operations and the enemy has been under continual fire. On October Ist and 2nd many demolition and incendiary bomb hits were scored on the camp area and seaplane hangar. Five enemy seaplanes were shot down during the raid on October 2nd. Although no hits were observed on the three cargo ships, subsequent photographic reconnaissance revealed two were damaged by bombs and had been beached.”—P.A. U.S. SUBMARINE PRESUMED LOST (Rec. 9.40 a.m.) Rugby, Oct. 5. The Navy Department in Washington has announced that the submarine Grunion is overdue in the Pacific and must be presumed lost. This is the fifth American submarine to be lost. —B O.W.
