TAKAKA W.D.F.U.
MONTHLY MEETING There was a fair attendance at the monthly meeting of the Takaka W.D.F.U., presided over by Mrs J. H. Small. The meeting was opened in the usual way with the singing of the National Anthem, the Creed and National Prayer. A letter of thanks to the branch was read from a soldier in the Middle East, who had been the recipient of a parcel, A pleasing part of the afternoon's programme was a most interesting talk given by Mrs Jennings on “Needlework of Women in Other Lands.” To illustrate her remarks the speaker had a large collection of beautiful arti-
cles made by women in Burma, Java ] and China. To show that a small place like Takaka has talented women too. Mrs Jennings displayed a very beautiful crochetted supper cloth made by Mis Crosdale of Tarakohe. The president thanked Mrs Jennings for an unusually interesting talk. Competition winners were: Best bloom. Mrs Homan 1, Mrs F. Hambrook 2. Best article from sugar bag, Mrs F. Hambrook 1. The hostesses, Mrs B. Woods and Mrs P. Gibbons, dispensed a dainty afternoon tea.
