DAMAGED CIVIC BUILDINGS
FOUR TO BE DEMOLISHED IN WELLINGTON Wellington, This Day. Decisions affecting municipally-own-ed buildings in and adjoining the Wellington Town Hall block which were damaged by the earthquake were reached at a special meeting of the Wellington City Council yesterday afternoon. Four buildings owned by the corporation are to be demolished: the Town Hail building is to be vacated for about three months while repair work is going on: and temporary offices to accommodate the staff of about 200 employees from there are to be erected immediately.
WELLINGTON COMPETITIONS OFF
The executive of the Wellington Competitions Society announces the abandonment of the 1942 festival. It has been unable to find suitable alternative accommodation to the Town Hall, which will be closed for several months. —P.A.
