THEFT OF UNIFORM
LORI) GOWRIE’S CHAUFFEUR Sydney, July 4. A suit of clothes and an overcoat, the property of Lord Gowrie, were mentioned in North Sydney police court yesterday. Glen Frank Broughton, 25, engineer, was charged with having stolen them at Kirribilli. He pleaded guilty and was fined £3- The clothes were valued at £lO. Constable Slocum said that Broughton had been employed at Admiralty House as a chauffeur until Saturday. When he was leaving Brigadier-General Anderson told him to leave his uniform behind. Broughton left, taking the clothes with him. Witness said that when Broughton was arrested at Mascot on Thursday he was wearing the clothes. He said that his own were at Canberra. The clothes were recovered. Broughton told Mr Atkinson, S.M., that he had no ulterior motive in taking the suit and the overcoat. His own suit had not arrived from Canberra, and he had no other old clothes to work in. He intended taking them
