TRAIN STOPPED IN TIME Christchurch. Aug. 8. A scene reminiscent of those breath taiking moments in serial pictures, where a train travelling at full spied, it approaching a blockage on the line just round the corner, was enacted at Kaimatu. oil the West Coast, on Friday morning. As in the film serials, the hero was there to stop the disaster. The 6.15 a.m. mixed train from Otira to Grevmoulh was near Kaimata when Mr Shanahan, who was in the vicinity, saw a large boulder, estimated at two tons in weight, on the rails. He ran up tlie line and signalled the engine driver to halt. The boulder was difficult to dislodge with the result that the train was 35 minutes late at Greymouth The obstruction was of such a nature that, had the train struck it. very serious damage to both the train and the track would have h.*. n < an .
