STEEL PRODUCTION
AMERICAN MISSION TO BRITAIN Washington, Aug. 9. The Combined Production Resources Board has appointed an American steel mission to go to Britain to attack the problem of steel production for war use on a united basis. The mission includes leaders of American steel producers, army, navy and Government officials, who will study British methods and requirements and investigate means of increasing the quantity of steel needed for the United Nations’ war effort and obtaining the maximum efficiency in the use and allocation of the combined productive capacity of Britain and America. A British steel mission is expected to visit the United States to make a similar study after the American group returns home. The board said the need for the mission arose from the fact that the British-American capacity to make weapons from steel now exceeds the combined capacity to produce steel. Therefore, it was necessary for every pound of productive capacity of both countries to be used as efficiently as possible, so that the greatest possible number of tanks, planes, ships and guns may be thrown against the enemy —P.A.
