SUCCESSFUL EXPERIMENTS IN U.S. 1 ~~ New York, Aug. 7. j The McConnell Aircraft Corporation ; announced that it has completed sue ! cessful experiments in using lamin j ated paper plastic in the manufacture of wing-tips, rudders, elevators, aileron.-, and other aeroplane parts. In the fabrication sheets of paper, like brown wrapping paper, are impregnated with phenol and formaldehyde, aifll moulded under pressure. A wing-tip made with this plastic is lighter and 40 per cent, stronger than aluminium, withstanding 28001 b weight in lest. The smooth surface eliminates finishing ol coating processes and has greater resistance to abrasion and denting than aluminium. It can be moulded with less pressure than other plastics, using cheaper zinc alloy dies instead of expensive steel
