PUPONGA PREPARES
I .P S. ORGANISATION An indication of steps recently taken to organise an Emergency Precautions Service at Puponga was given by Councillor S. 11. Marsh at the monthly meeting of the Collingwood County Council. A particularly well-attended public meeting had been called and essential measures put in train. Protection of residents in case of air raids received the meeting’s earnest consideration and a “working bee” was arranged to clear tunnels in the old coal mine and tit them for use as shelters. In preparation for dealing with possible casualties. Mrs Kerr had been holding first aid classes for some i time past and good work had been accomplished in this connection. The question of establishing a food depot had been discussed at some length. Councillor Marsh said, but the meeting had not favoured the proposal, considering it better that the residents themselves should accept the responsibility of laying in extra stores to meet the possibility of the district’s isolation during a period of emergency.
