JAPANESE CHALLENGE
TO U.S. AND BRITISH NAVIES “COME OUT AND FIGHT” (Rec. 1.20 p.m.) New York, Jan. 8. Tokio official radio says that Captain Hiraide, Navy Press chief at Imperial Headquarters, broadcast a challenge to [the British and American navies to come out and fight in the Pacific, the sooner the better for Japan because such a battle would end the struggle I immediately. • Captain Hiraide claimed that the Japanese Navy was now carryling out operations over the entire Pacific from the west coast of the United States to the Indian Ocean and from the Aleutian Islands to the Antipodes. —U.P.A.
