“FRESH FIELDS” TO-NIGHT

! REPERTORY COMEDY AT TIIE ROYAL To-night is the premiere of “Fresh * Fields,” the Repertory Club's second production this year. The lirst night of a play is always a theatrical event, and to-night the public of Nelson will be treated to a comedy of unusual gaiety and colour. The full-dress rehearsal of “Fresh Fields” last night was most successful and augurs well for to-night. The work of all the cast shows polish, and the action moves rapidly from one hilarious situation to another. "Fresh Fields” contains all the elements of a f'rst-class light comedy. The characters are well-defined, lovable and true to type; the dialogue is witty and refreshing, and the stage settings and finishings most attractive and artistic. Patrons will love the languid Lady Lilian, the opportunist Lady Mary, and their Australian guests whose reactions to English customs are so amusing. All sportsmen will sympathise keenly with Tom Larcomb as he attempts to masj ter the elements of a new game under the expert tuition of Ludlow, the butler. And every woman will admire the colourful variety of the frocking. Contrary to popular belief, the first night of an amateur production is frequently the best. After weeks of strenuous rehearsing, the cast is key-ed-up to give its first public performance, and consequently is at the top of its form, and an excellent production results. 1 The booking for Wednesday and ’ Thursday has been heavy, so all who I wish to make sure of a good seat . should attend to-night. There will be • some 200 seats on sale at the door at [ 7.30 to-night, any one of which enables • patrons to see and hear everything. As all profits from “Fresh Fields” ’ will be given to the Patriotic Fund, this production merits the public’s full sup- ! port. The Nelson Repertory Club conj fidently expects that to-night the pub- . lie will see a show of undoubted merit . and delightful humour.
