TREATMENT OF ANIMALS
fTo the Editorl Sir, —Just a week ago to day there j appeared a letter in your paper under j the signature of ‘‘Animal Lover” direct-! ing the attention of your readers to the fact that there is appalling cruelty going' on in the Nelson district, owing to the' overstocking of the farms. The writer; refers to the poor condition of many of 1 the animals he has seen, so that he can ! speak of what he knows, and he calls it | tragic. It is, too, for they have to suffer I in silence, and they have no redress un- ! less some human can raise a voice for them. No one has yet replied to the former letter, but may I suggest that the writer gets in touch with Mr Blair, stock inspector, and Mr Hodgkinson, S.P.C.A. inspector, and gives them whatever information he has, to aid them in bringing to lignt whatever may prevent further cruelty. It is so shameful to take advantage of the dumb; rather let us always be a worthy champion of their cause. —I am, etc., ANOTHER ANIMAL LOVER. Nelson, 27th October.
