SERGEANT-PILOT WARD A PRISONER I Sergeant Pilot James Allen Ward, I V.C., reported missing, believed killed, i 'nay be alive, and a prisoner of war |'n Germany His brother-in-law, Mr jS H. Mayne, of Christchurch, has very j substantial reasons to believe this, and ; he asked the assistance of “The Press” :<o obtain confirmation of what he has ! heard. ! Ward’s name is reported to have been : > cad over the German radio among a j Ust of prisoners. Mr E. V. Atwell, a radio enthusiast, was listening to Geri many about 10 p.m. on a Saturday a low weeks ago, and a list of prisoners j was read. There was one name of j which all Mr Atwell heard was “ : Allen Ward. street. Wanganui, New Zealand ’’ The next was a Christchurch man. Mr Turner. of 363 Worcester street. Mr Atwell was able to inform his parents that he was safe. After Mr Mavne heard of this, two other people told him that they had heard the name of Sergeant Pilot Ward, one not realising that it would be the V.C He now hopes to hear from anyone else who heard the announcement.
