DREDGE LOSES BUCKETS
DIFFICULT RECOVERY TASK Napier, Oct. 26. Most of the buckets on the Napier Harbour Boards' dredge Whakarire fell into the harbour where it was dredging one evening recently. It was only with difficulty that the heavy chain of buckets, weighing nearly 100 tons, was recovered. Two Im'f: of the chain parted, and the bucket?, began to fall into the harbour. and most of them had gone overboard before the dredgemaster, Captain T Stephens, and the crew were able to take steps to save a few of them. Immediate action was taken to recover the dropped buckets, but it was not until three nights later and after long hours of work and the assistance of a diver that most of the material was recovered.—P.A.
