HIDING IN CRETE
WIIANGAREI SOLDIER Whangarei, Oct. 26. News that one of his sons who was posted as missing after the fighting in Crete was seen in a village in the hills on the island by a New Zealand soldier who has since escaped from Crete has been received by Mr E. H. Lambert, of Whangarei. Mr and Mrs Lambert have three sons with the New Zealand Forces overseas. One son. Driver George Lambert, is with his unit in the Middle East, while Private Gerald Lambert managed to make his escape from Crete after being posted as missing The other son is Private Arthur Lambert. A New Zealand soldier has written that he saw him with two other New Zealanders hiding in a cave near a village in the mountains. They were well supplied with food and were waiting for an opportunity to escape from the island. The writer stated that he, with another soldier, was able to se- j cure a boat and so get away from ! Crete and back to Egypt.
