FATHER OF NELSON'S V.C.

PRESENTATION BY OFFICE STAFF Sergeant A. C. Hulme, V.C., accompanied by his father, Mr H. C. Kulme, and sister, Mrs P. Casa, passed through Wanganui irom New Plymouth on the way to Wellington, en route for Richmond. Nelson, where Sergeant Hulme's wife and family are living and where he was given a public welcome. The party travelled in a Government car. A small illuminated address was presented to Mr H. C. Hulme by fellow officers of the Lands and Survey Department in New Plymouth to commemorate the award of the Victoria Cross to his son before the departure of the party for Wellington. The address expresses the pride felt by officers of the oepartment in the winning of such an honour by the son of one of their members, and offers congratulations to Mr Hulme on his son's heroism. The address, the work of Mr F. Coleman, a member of the staff of the department, is in colours, and in the left margin panel there is a representation of the Victoria Cross, a leaf scroll into which is worked the badge of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force, and at the foot of the panel the figure of a soldier in modern equipment firing a tommy gun. The addiess is signed by 36 members of the office and fields staff at New Plymouth. The presentation was made by Mr A. F. Waters, Crown Lands Commissi'>ner, in the presence of the full staff, Sergeant Hulme, and his sister. Mrs Casa. Mr Hulme acknowledged the thoughtfulness of his fellow officers.
