SEIZURE OF GUNS DISCUSSED
OFFENDERS UNDER GAME PROTECTION ACT “Till this matter is properly dealt with we will always have trouble, par--1 ticularly in the effective ranging of districts,” said a member at yesterday's meeting in Wellington of the North Island Acclimatisation Societies’ Council, when the following remit was under discussion: “That it be a recommendation to the Minister of Internal Affairs that in cases of convictions under the Game Protection Acts, j where the firearm is seized, that such I firearm be not returned unless recomI mended by the society of the district where the offence was committed.” The Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr Pa.ry, who attended the meeting, said that, except in exceptional circumj stance such as a rifle being dangerous, jhe was opposed to taking a man’s gun ! away from him. The matter could be dealt with by the magistrate. "You ' should not saddle me with the respon- [ sibility.” ■ A member remarked that the seizure of the firearm would be the best deterj rent to offences. , In view of the Minister s remark the remit was not pressed.
