OBITUARY
BRIGADIER A. GRAY Wellington, This Day. An active and popular officer of the Salvation Army for more than 40 years, Brigadier Andrew Gray, died in Wellington yesterday morning, aged 72. —P.A. Brigadier Gray, who was born in Victoria, joined the Salvation Army j eight years before he sailed for New j Zealand 40 years ago, and while in i the Commonwealth served in New j South Wales. At the outbreak of war 'in 1914 he was appointed chaplain- | captain at the Salvation Army hut at Trentham, where he was popular with ! officers and men. Immigration and 1 social work occupied much of his time 'from 1920. His evangelical work during tours throughout New Zealand met with great success. Though Brigaj dier Gray retired about eight years ! ago, his retirement had not found him ! idle, and his interest in the work of 1 the army never slackened. ! Brigadier Gray is survived by his i wife, a son, Mr Gordon Gray, and seven daughters, Misses Nellie, Stella, Lillie, and Olive Gray, and Mesdames R. Armstrong, L. Read and B. Harewood.
