WARTIME WAGES
SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE IN BRITAIN London, Aug. 5. - j An analysis by the “Daily Telegraph” of the Ministry of Labour figures shows r , that the full-time weekly wages for c! 19.995,000 British workers have iny creased by £4.114.600 since the outbreak - i of the war. an average of 4s a week. cl j In the first six months of 1941 the r weekly wage for 6.850.000 persons in- - creased by an average of 3s 9d, representing a drop of about 6d in the average rate of increase in weekly wages in the corresponding six months of last year, when 6,600.000 workers received ~ an estimated total rise of £1.400.000 _ ; over the pre-war figures. Last June the : aggregate weekly wage increase was i £300.000. divided among 1.925 000 0 | workers, mostly in coal-mining, iron 1 ; and steel manufacture, buildings and 1 public works .—U.P.A.
