DRIVING IN BLACKOUT
LMON’S RECOMMENDATIONS Auckland, Aug. 6. Recommendations based on practical experience were approved at a meeting of the Auckland Drivers’ Union, and are to be forwarded to the Minister of Transport, Mr Semple. for favourable consideration. In a letter to Mr Semple, the secretary of the union, Mr L. G. Matthews. states that the considered opinion of bus drivers is that the speed of all motor-vehicles and trams should be reduced to a maximum of 20 miles an hour during the blackout period, also that the maximum candlepower of dipped headlight should not exceed 32. and that foglights and spotlights should be prohibited. Mr Matthews will also draw the Minister’s attention to the advisability of all railway locomotives running parallel with main highways being compelled to use dipped lights the same as users of molor-
