ADDITIONAL BENEFITS
SOCIAL SECURITY SCHEME CLAUSES IN FINANCE BILL Wellington, Tins Day. One of the important features of the Finance Bill introduced in the House of Representatives this afternoon will be clauses authorising additional benefits under the Social Security Scheme The principal extension is the inclusion in the family allowance benefit of the first child instead of the benefit applyng only to the second and additional children. It involves an increase of 4s weekly in the family allowance now paid and is estimated to cost £239.000 in the first year of operation. The position of age beneticaries with dependents is to be improved by increasing the rates payable in respect to wives and children to 10s each week, with a maximum age-benefit cl £4 10s weekly The maximum invalids’ benefit is being increased from £4 to £4 10s 9d weekly.—P.A.
