RECLAMATION OF WASTE MATERIALS
ESSENTIAL MATERIALS FOR WAR EFFORT • In the recent campaign for the eol- [ lection of waste materials four tons of : miscellaneous non-ferrous metals were 1 collected in Nelson. ‘ A report of the Nelson Provincial ' Patriotic Council makes the followt mg reference to the subject:— ‘ “This effort which has been mane j under the direction of Mr C. I. Kidson, • City Engineer, has resulted in the col* ; lection and despatch to Wellington of ! some four tons of miscellaneous non- . ferrous metals, and the Provincial Fund has benefited thereby to the extent of £ll3 6s 9d. The important feature of this work is. however, not so much that provincial funds have benefited, but rather that materials esj sential to the Dominion’s war effort j have been provided at a time when they are almost unprocurable. The executive thanks all who have assisted in this effort throughout the proJ Mr J. A. Harley, at last night’s general meeting of the council, suggested ! that the Controlling Committee should | continue the collection of non-ferrous | metals which were valuable in the Dominion’s war effort. In the city the . metals were collected in conjunction j with the rubbish service.
