One of England's best known bookmakers has been laying any- 1 thing up to £IO,OOO at even money that the war will end within a year. The Stock Exchange and Lloyds are doing likewise. An early invasion of Germanoccupied countries is favoured by a large section of the Army and Air Force, but their leaders are opposed to any premature and mistimed I expeditions against any part of the Continent.
