TRAVELLING CANTEEN

It is intended to gather a many of the returned soldiers from the Great War as possible for the occasion. When the second contingent was in F.ngland. the Y.M.C.A. had the use of four travelling canteens—one purchased from the Lowry gift and one from the War Services organisation and two that were purchased. A mobile picture van was also part of the equipment. Unfortunately all these had l<> ho left behind when the move to the Middle East was made. This canteen given by the Returned Soldiers' Association, is sufficiently large lo enable it to carry a portable motion picture projector in addition to the normal stock, and for that reason it will l)e particularly useful. The Overseas Commissioner of the New Zealand Y.M.C.A. Mr H. W. Shove, is very keen on developing the cinema side of the activities of travelling canteens. He said that already he has been able to screen several films that had been taken of New Zea land soldiers with a 16 mm camera. These had been very well received by the troops. To meet the evident demand for films of the 16 mm. type for the entertainment of the soldiers. Mr Shove suggests that people in New Zealand who have cameras of that size and have films ! available should communicate with the secretary of the National PatrioticFund Board.
