FLAG 500 ’• The Happiness Club held another I very successful “Flag 500” evening in 1 : the Civic Tea Rooms on Thursday s j night. The room was filled to capacity. ! After many keen games the winners , proved to be Mrs Rout. Mrs Sims, Mr ‘ J. Hay and Mr L. Ruffell, with a score 'i of 19 flags. The consolation prizes I I were awarded to Mrs A. Cotton, Mrs Stafford, Mrs Austin and Miss Pegg. ' Mrs Sherwood was the winner of a special prize. After the cards supper was served s by the ladies’ committee. In a short j speech Mrs Annear, president, thanked all present for making the evening - sc enjoyable, and mentioned that the proceeds of the evening would go to I the Soldiers’ Parcel Fund. - £lO FOR PATRIOTIC FUNDS A very successful patriotic dance was • held in the Pangatotara Hall, the pro- • ceeds of which amounted to £lO. Music [ was supplied by Kenyon’s Dance Band. A song by Miss Quirk and songs by a number of Maori girls at present in the district added to the evening’s entertainment. A pyrex dish donated by j Mrs F. Kissel was won by Miss D. Batt. The duties of M.C. were performed by 1 Mrs L. Overend. Pins are a very old branch of our industry. Queen Elizabeth paid Is j for 300 ordinary dress pins. In 1370 ; the Pinners were incorporated into j a Guild, and protected by a law which : forbade importation of pins. Charles I received from the Guild £SOO a | year, which he handed to his wife: j hence “Pin money.”
