NELSON WEST TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD

j The May meeting of the Nelson West I Townswomen’s Guild held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Waimea street was very well attended. The meeting opened in the usual manner by the singing of the National Anthem, followed by the reading of the Aspiration, after which the President (Mrs Gustavel) extended a welcome to old and new members and expressed pleasure at seeing so many present. Five new members were given a special welcome. Members were reminded of the guild’s third birthday which will be celebrated on 6th June, to which members maj r bring a friend. Mrs Atmore was the speaker for the afternoon, her subject being the recently formed Women’s War Service Auxiliary. The aims and objects of the organisation which is playing a most important part in the Dominion at present were clearly defined by the speaker. At the conclusion of her address Mrs Atmore was presented with a very dainty spray and members showed their appreciation by spontaneous applause. An excellent afternoon tea was supervised by Mrs Condell and served by the following hostesses: Mesdames Morcom. Gibbons, Topliss and Kirby. The prizes awarded at the Flower Show were presented to the winners by Mrs Gustavel. Two pleasing items were rendered by the Muscial Circle conducted by Mrs W. Stewart, “The Apple Woman,” and "Humouresque.” Mrs Brunt was at the piano. The faggoted blouse, donated by Mrs Kiddie was won by Mr Street, and the bread-board donated by Mrs Charters won by Miss B.
