FARMERS AND AMMUNITION

[To the Editor] Sir, —There have been several letters in the New Zealand press lately urging the use of .22 and .303 ammunition by farmers for deer and pigs. There was an ancient saying of the poet “Vigil,” “How happy farmers would be if they knew what was good for them.” Allow me to suggest that farmers can do very well with 12 bore ammunition at the present time, a very light and reasonable self-sacrifice. If they care to induce the Government to manufacture .22 in the country at some fitting time it would be an excellent idea. —I am, etc,, C. H. MARSH. Nelson, 16th May.
